Our Story

In 2012, our founder started Christy Webber Farm & Garden to share her passion for horticulture and urban agriculture with Chicago's West Side.

Since then, we've grown from a small plant shop to a highly curated urban garden center: houseplants, ornamentals, annuals, edibles, rare succulents, designer pottery, and garden supplies of all kinds.  Committed to ecological solutions, each year we carry more than 200 species of local-ecotype native plants, grown from wild-origin seed without persistent insecticides.  Our suppliers and growers are vetted across all departments, including regionally sourced landscape materials and a national network of growers for high-quality tropicals.  As the season comes to a close, we provide natural Christmas trees and holiday gifts for the plant nerds in your life.

Through our growth over the last decade, our old name (based on our history in urban ag --- ask us about our pet pig!) no longer describes us.  This fall we'll change our name to Tallgrass Garden by Christy Webber, to honor the prairies of the Midwest and to better reflect who we've become as we serve our community and the living world. We'll keep our roots while deepening what we stand for.  We hope to see you soon!

Q: Are you a new company?
A: Nope — same team, same location, same plants. Just a name that better fits who we are.

Q: Why “Tallgrass Garden”?
A: It’s rooted in what we do best: deep expertise, native plants, and a garden built around Chicago’s landscape and community.

Q: Is Christy Webber still involved?
A: Yes. We’re still “by Christy Webber”; that part isn’t going anywhere.

Q: Are you the same as Christy Webber Landscapes?
A: No, we’re a separate business. We’re a garden center and plant shop, not a landscaping company.

Q: Will prices, hours, or staff change?
A: Nope. Everything you already know and love about shopping here stays exactly the same.

Q: When does the new name take effect?
A: Officially at our Fall Harvest Fest launch on 9/26, but you’ll start seeing it pop up before then.
